A Chambered Cairn in Highlands.

Loch Borralan West is a chambered cairn on the shore of Loch Borralan c. 0.5 mile NW of Altnacealgach Motel on the A837. It lies 30 yards from the A837 measuring 50 feet across by 6 feet high. Canmore ID 4623 contains a 1911 account of the remains of a chamber but in 2009 a Field Visit only found a depression suggesting the location of a chamber. The cairn has been significantly robbed in the S and E quadrants leaving a scatter of 1-2 feet stones mixed with fewer 3-4 feet stones. No internal structure is discernable. The N & W quadrants have not been disturbed leaving a round heather clad profile visible from the roadside.

Directions: From Ullapool head N for c. 18 miles on the A835 until you reach the A837. Turn right for about 1.25 miles and the cairn is visible on the loch side.
