An almost 250 metre long stone row on the slopes of Craddock Moor, above the northern end of Siblyback Lake in the midst of southern Bodmin Moor. The row runs in a NE to SW alignment, from SX23967203 to SX24087224.

After spending time on Exmoor looking for the tiny stone rows there, this one is nice and easy to find. The stones are on average about a foot tall above the ground and many are easy to find despite many of them hiding amongst the long grass and overgrowth. The stones are spaced nice and evenly at just over one metre from each other, and the row is nice and straight.

The southern end of the row is a bit more sparse than the northern end, so when looking for this row, start by finding the northern, uphill end.

While I was here, there were lots of rabbits and hawks about, which didn’t seem to be too worried by my presence.

Update September 2019: This stone row is recorded on the Stone Rows of Great Britain - see their entry for Craddock Moor, which includes a description, photographs of the alignment and some of the individual stones, a simplified plan of the alignment, plus access information.

The row is also recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 436149 and scheduled as Historic England List ID 1009837 (Craddock Moor stone alignment, centred 550m north-east of Sparretts Farm).

Craddock Moor stone row
Craddock Moor stone row submitted by thecaptain : gps track plot of my wanderings round Craddock Moor, along the embanked avenue and then the stone row on Sunday. I use an ageing Garmin etrex Venture pocket reciever, and the track is plotted out using GPSVisualizer, with only a few minutes fiddling. I find it amazing the results that can now be obtained for things like this, using cheap, readily available technology, in a pocketsized devi... (Vote or comment on this photo)
