markj99 visited on 9th Jun 2023 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 3 Access: 5 The Short Cross is located c. 500 yards N of Altarnun at the start of a narrow lane leading to Tresibbett. I had to clear away vegetation to find the broken cross head embedded in the base of a stone wall.

Ancient Cross in Cornwall

From the Cornwall HER: A worn and mutilated cross, roughly square in shape stood at the Y-junction north of Altarnun village. According to Ellis, it is locally known as 'Short Cross' and is probably near its original site at the road junction (b2). A field visit by the OS revealed that the cross is built into the base of a hedge.

See Historic England List ID 1004239 (Wayside cross 315m north of The Old Rectory, Altarnun) for more information.
