Leaze stone circle

Of the original 28 stones in an 25m (82-foot) circle, only sixteen remain, and only ten of those still stand at an average height of 1.1m (3 feet 6 inches).

A stone wall passes through this badly-damaged ring.

Nearby, a pair of ruined circles are nearby at SX134775, as well as the embanked rectangle of King Arthur's Hall at SX129776.

Access: Walk from Middle Candra past King Arthur's Hall. 1.5km. Unless you're very keen I would spend your time visiting King Arthur's Hall instead.

A beautiful location on Bodmin Moor, Kernow's best known moor land. Despite it's dilapidated state, this stone circle is well worth seeking out! (3 comments - Vote or comment on this photo)

Hi Guys,
Leaze stone circle; a count of the ring of 28 stones and their height, half a faethm (faethm = 2.07 metres), with the singularly important centre flat slab leads me to conclude the site was sacred to and the location of a temple to their Moon goddess. There may have been 29 or 30 columns, the days of a lunar month, the ancient Moon calendar cycle. The centre slab could have been the slaughter stone for monthly sacrifices of Dartmoor sheep or ponies to feed protein to the village population. Another careful survey and count of the stone columns and their spacing is warranted. Dr Neil L. Thomas

I have never been able to get close to the remains of this nice looking circle, it being within the walled and double fenced off fields to the north of Leaze farm. To add further deterrent to entering and walking through the fields on this visit, the field within which the eastern part of the circle stands was occupied by a massive black bull, with big horns. More than enough to keep me out ! So I had to content myself (not content at all if I am honest) with the usual long distance view from the walls to the west.

Had another attempt to get to this circle, Sept 2013, but was once more defeated, by double walled and fenced fields of intimidating looking beasties.
