woodini254 visited on 12th Jun 2012 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 4 Access: 4 Directions The Kings Quoit is located south west on a small bank above a cliff face immediately adjacent to the Pembrokeshire coastal foot path approximately 300m from the beach at Manorbeir Bay Description The monument which faces inland towards Manorbeir consists of a huge single capstone of local stone supported by two uprights, although a third upright located at the south eastern end, which is now probably collapsed. The position of the three uprights suggests that the chamber was originally rectangular. The Kings Quoit maybe regarded as ‘Earth Fast’ belonging to the sub-megalithic classification.

King's Quoit, Manorbier
King's Quoit, Manorbier submitted by sem : Looking SW,the view here is outstanding. This must have been a very sought after plot of Neolithic real-estate.It is set in a hollow on the cliffside lined with stones bigger than any but the capstone.Children & Nash suggest "no covering mound would have existed because the ledge.....is far too narrow." The magnificent King's Quoit earthfast chambered tomb overlooking Manorbier Bay in Pembrokeshire. It is only a short walk along the coastal path from the beach. The tomb points inland across the inshore waters of the bay. An excellent site.

King's Quoit, Manorbier submitted by pab : King's Quoit, Manorbier, from across the bay! To help explain I think that why the upright line of stones alongside King's Quoit have not been put there by whoever constructed the Quoit, this picture clearly shows how the layers of rock in the bay are vertical. The ORS 'Old Red Sandstone' joint I have found described in artilces on the geology of the bay passes alongside King’s Quoit, tak... (Vote or comment on this photo)

King's Quoit, Manorbier submitted by Horatio : Highlighting the capstone.. The relatively small uprights mean the chamber is only about 1 metre high, yet the capstone is huge, projecting out from the hillside some 4 metres, and about 2.5 metres wide and 0.5 metres thick. The stones are all local red sandstone. In the background is Manorbier Castle. In 1146 Gerald of Wales, the great 12th century scholar known as Geraldus Cambrensis was ...

King's Quoit, Manorbier submitted by DrewParsons : The large capstone is set into the hillside and rests on two upright stones. Apparently never covered by a mound due to the steepness of the terrain, it would always have been a prominent site. (2 comments)

Re: King's Quoit, Manorbier by Anonymous on Thursday, 19 June 2008
I am trying to identify an earth fast chambered tomb shown on a hand painted pen and ink drawing that I bought in a second hand shop in Australia.

The arrangement of the stones is similar to those of King's Quoit.

Is King's Quoit the only site that is overlooking/beside a bay? The drawing also features ?oak trees.

Thank you if you can help identify the site of my drawing.

    Hi,
the only other one I can think of with 'sea view' and trees is Carreg Samson, but it wouldn't be described as earthfast.

I will send you some pictures I took there a couple of years ago - otherwise, you may need to send a scan of the picture itself?
