The Hanging Stone (Pembrokeshire)
The Hanging Stone (Pembrokeshire) submitted by sem : View showing the chamber and stones in the hedgebank thought to be a second capstone and uprights forming the original passage entrance. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The chamber of this tomb is formed by a large capstone and 3 uprights, one of which is in a hedgebank within which part of the site lies incorporated. Additional stones in the hedge are a probable second capstone and three further uprights suggesting the remains of a passage of what is therefore presumed to be a passage grave.

The Hanging Stone (Pembrokeshire) submitted by Bladup : The great Hanging Stone burial chamber. I'd love to have this next to my garden. The house even has a picture of it on their homes name sign, so a least we know it is loved. (2 comments - Vote or comment on this photo)

The Hanging Stone (Pembrokeshire) submitted by Horatio : Being a bit self-indulgent now but this tomb was just too photogenic! Looks good in colour version also but I do like a B&W. I know I will be back soon, I think I was real lucky this time with the weather and dormant flora allowing some cracking views and access to this 'beautiful megalith'.

The Hanging Stone (Pembrokeshire) submitted by Horatio : Other side of the tomb with wife and dog in tow. I know my eyes/brain playing games with me and I see patterns where they're not. A spiral design this side? The other side was 3 cup marks...all not real obviously

The Hanging Stone (Pembrokeshire) submitted by Horatio : Maen y Crocbren or in the Anglais - The Hanging Stone. Oh wow..this is a real gem, if on a megalithic trip in this neck of the woods, make this very high on your list. Just walking down the path and seeing in the distance blew me away. Taken from the Coflein records- 'A polygonal chamber formed by a capstone supported by three orthostats, with no trace of a barrow. Dry-stone walling w...

The Hanging Stone (Pembrokeshire) submitted by DrewParsons : From this angle it is possible to see holes in the capstone. They looked like natural features to me - a bit too deep to be cup marks but I may be wrong. In any case they would have been appealing to the builders of this dolmen. September 2010.

Coflein says: "Dry-stone walling was noted between the orthostats in 1864 and stones in the adjacent hedge have been seen as further megalithic elements, possibly representing a short passage." - I don’t think that justifies calling it a Passage Grave however - change to Dolmen/Burial Chamber I think

The walk to this site is dead easy. The track which takes you to the tomb is concreted in the wheel ruts so you could take a wheelchair/pram down - this would get you to within 15 metres but the path a grassy beyond the end of the main track.
