Torr a'Chaisteil
Torr a'Chaisteil submitted by cosmic : Torr a'Chaisteil Dun. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Hillfort in Isle of Arran. This Dun crowns Torr a' Chaisteil, a former headland. The double-skin wall is supposedly 10ft-12ft wide and made of massive sandstone blocks in-filled with rubble, enclosing an area 45 ft in diameter. Only the foundations of the wall remain but an 8' gap to the north-east may mark the entrance. This is guarded by a 65' curved rampart of earth and stone, 5' high on the inside and 20' high on the outside.
