Four, or is it five, round cairns are supremely positioned on the top of the lovely rounded Brea Hill, which sticks out into the beautiful Camel Estuary to the south of Daymer Bay.

The cairns are between 10 and 15 metres in diameter, and mostly still much more than a metre in height, made of rocks and stones.

The views from up here are sublime, with the Camel estuary from the north to south on the west side of the hill, which is otherwise surrounded by sand dunes, within which, to the east is the lovely little St Enodoc church.

After a couple of stormy days, the sea is fairly rough, and just after full tide, the waves are piling in and crashing on the shore, or breaking over the Doom Bar.

Beautiful.

Brea Hill
Brea Hill submitted by Bladup : Brea Hill, Going from right to left you have Cairn 1, Then just left of center is the low mound of Cairn 2 and just the the left of there are the clearly visible Cairns 3 and 4

Brea Hill
Brea Hill submitted by Bladup : Brea Hill, Looking West from Cairn 1 there seemed to be a (man made) level area before the hill naturally drops off, It's maybe the site of a mortuary enclosure, Which would have been associated with the very nearby Cairns or possibly the site of a long removed Cairn

Brea Hill
Brea Hill submitted by Antonine : A closer view of Brea Hill taken from St Enodoc Church in 2010. An ancient Christian oratory was discovered at Brea Hill in 1822 when a storm caused sand to shift. It has since been reclaimed by the sand.

Brea Hill
Brea Hill submitted by Antonine : The hill is 62 metres high. There is at least three Bronze-Age round barrows on the top. Between Brea Hill and Rock, are the buried remains of a Roman settlement. This photo was taken in 2010.
