Promontory fort, Three lines of ramparts and rock cut ditches, the promontory is an irregularly shaped plataeau, mostly level and surrounded by cliffs that rise upto 40metres from the sea below.

COFLEIN describes this location as having both Iron Age and Roman elements:

"Castell Coch, Trefin, is a spectacular promontory fort or cliff castle. These monuments generally date to the later prehistoric period and were often occupied through the Roman period. They appear similar to inland hillforts, although it is possible that their often dramatic locations point to a ritual or ceremonial aspect.

The promontory is an irregular level plateau edge by high precipitous cliffs. Three lines of rampart and ditch cut off a narrow neck some 40m across. A possible roundhouse was noted in 1963, but has not been confirmed."
