A lot of tidying work has been done around most of the houses, and some informative signs installed, along with a raised viewing area allowing a vision of the whole site. So fabulous to see this wonderful ancient village again.

h_fenton visited on 9th Apr 2010 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 4 Access: 4 This time I arrived at Chysauster half an hour before closing time, I wanted to get some more aerial photographs, I got permission. Kite and camera rushed into the air, I spent the next 45minutes thoroughly photographing the site, unfortunately the sun was still fairly high in the sky so some of the earthworks didn't show as well as they might otherwise do. staff at the site were relaxed about closing time and by the time I had finished there were still a couple of other visitors wandering around. Nice Ambience.
h_fenton visited on 16th Oct 2008 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 4 Access: 4 Arrived at Chysauster early before the site was quite open, got my free entry with my CADW life membership card, and got permission to fly my kite here. A nice relaxed time, light winds, I was amazed everytime I brought my camera back to the ground how different and understandable everything seemed from the viewpoint far above my head. On the ground you walk through the courtyard houses; peer into the different rooms, but you don't really get the spatial relationship of everything, but the view from the camera hanging beneath the kite just gives the different rooms, different houses, spaces between all a context and enhances the understanding of this remarkable site.

There is also a ruined fogou on site to the south of the houses. (see nearby sites list below)
For more information see the scheduling record for Historic England List ID 1006726 (Chysauster courtyard house settlement, fogou, round cairn and part of a prehistoric field system) and Pastscape Monument No. 423417, which tells us: "Chysauster was a settlement mainly occupied between the second and third centuries AD. However, there is evidence for Iron Age settlement and earlier exploitation of the landscape since at least the middle Bronze Age. It is situated on the Lands End peninsula one mile west of the hillfort of Castle-an-Dinas and reached by way of the St Ives to Penzance road".
The Journal of Antiquities also includes an entry for Chysauster Ancient Settlement, Near Gulval, Cornwall, which includes directions for finding this site, an aerial photograph, an illustration, background information and a list of reference sources for more information.
