Porthmeor Settlements, Tumuli and homestead
Porthmeor Settlements, Tumuli and homestead submitted by Bladup : Entrance stones to a building in Porthmeor round [SW434371]. (Vote or comment on this photo)
An enclosed Iron Age settlement [A Round] with courtyard houses, hut circles, a fogou [outside the main settlement, as is another hut] and adjacent field system located near Porthmeor farm on the northern side of Bosporthennis valley.

The site was first recorded during the mid 19th century and excavated in 1933-5. Fragments of pottery were found which indicated the site had been occupied between 50 AD and 4th century AD. Other similar sites have been found to have been far older, and the iron age houses are often built from the material of earlier bronze age huts, and sometimes those from even earlier neolithic ones.

The site is very overgrown with brambles and gorse and a february/march trip if visiting is the best because of this.
