Tobar Ninian
Tobar Ninian submitted by KiwiBetsy : The well, a stone structure built over a spring, is located behind the church at the end of a path flanked by drystone walls. This wonderful setting gives the impression that the well was once an important site for worshipers at the church. The water, which still runs clear, was once used for baptisms. Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Isle of Mull

Tobar Ninian is located behind the Kilninian Parish Church on the B8073 on the western side of Mull. This is a lovely spot with views out to the Treshnish Isles on a clear day.

Please note that the quoted grid reference NM357457 is wrong. Correct grid ref is NM397457. The Megalithic map also shows the wrong location.

Kilninian church is now in the care of the Orthodox Church. Much restoration has taken place, but it remains locked outside of service times. The mediaeval grab slabs are now displayed at the rear of the church. St Ninians Well (Tobar Ninian) is now decorated with icons, shells, white pebbles etc.

There are also some fine Medieval grave slabs in the vestry behind the church. These used to be accessible, but now appears to be kept lock (December 2019)
