Dun Osdale Broch

Dun Osdale is a ruined broch c. 1 mile SW of Dunvegan. It was built on a natural mound 35 metres above sea level at the foot of Macleod’s Table North. Canmore ID 10832 gives its internal diameter as 12 yards with an outer wall up to 4 yards thick. The interior is chaotic with a scatter of stones however the remains of a chamber can be seen in the W arc.

Directions: Take the A87 Uig out of Portree then turn L onto the A850 Dunvegan road. On reaching Dunvegan turn L for about 1.33 miles. Take the L signposted for B884 Glendale. This is a narrow single track road passing the fire station, heading for Macleod’s Tables. After just over 0.5 mile bear sharp R avoiding the Orbost road. Stay on this road for another 1.25 miles and Dun Osdale will loom up on the L just before the Uiginish junction. There is just room to park on the L opposite a gate that leads up to Dun Osdale.
If you have excess energy it may be possible to climb Macleod’s Tables from here though the more traditional route begins in Orbost which you can easily reach by doubling back.
