Carn of Works
Carn of Works submitted by paulcall : I had a terrible job finding this, and only recognised it when I came across the L-shaped combination of stones illustrated in a plan of the site in Jeanette Ratcliffe's excellent book 'Scilly's Archeological Heritage.' The view towards the island of St Mary's is marvellous (but then so are most of the views on Scilly!). (Vote or comment on this photo)
Carn of Works is a hardly recognisable as a Scillonian entrance grave at all. It is situated on the south end of the Island of Gugh within a site used subsequently as a Civil War battery.

Only two stones remain in an L-shaped arrangement. One is thought to be a capstone and the other an upright from within the tomb. The northern end of the battery is thought to have incorporated and modified the original mound of the entrance grave.

Carn of Works
Carn of Works submitted by paulcall : This a view of the south end of Gugh, from the neighbouring island of St Agnes. The two are separated by a sandbar at low tide, allowing access to Gugh which is otherwise inaccessible. The arrow points to the promontary known as the Carn of Works. The entrance grave is situated just beyond the top within a flattened pentagonal mound used as a Civil War battery.
