Cairn Circle in Cumbria

This ring cairn/circle lay under a large mound until its excavation in 1900. One of the stones is said to be marked with a faint set of concentric rings with two adjoining semi-circles.

Glassonby Cairn Circle This is not a very good photo. The 4x4 was approaching, and I was getting nervous, but I had just spotted the magical mountain of Blencathra gleaming in the distance. So I tried my best to catch the mountain and the circle; its between the two trees to the left of the telegraph pole.

Glassonby Cairn Circle. Beautiful, peaceful, teaming with wildlife, remote and serene. Until a great big 4x4 came across the field and informed me the land was private and that I should have asked for permission. The ambience was gone in an instant, Katie was quite shaken. Please take my advice and try to get permission to visit. Then at least you can relax and enjoy the site to the full.

People wishing to visit the cairn circle at Glassonby need to request permission from the Farmer at Glassonby Lodge Farm.
I think this is his web page, which has a phone number
