Bugul er Hoët menhir
Bugul er Hoët menhir submitted by Ogham : It is a steady climb up the path to the menhir, it has no easy access. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Tallest of the menhirs in the Quénécan Forest, measuring 4.50 metres high.

words from Ogham "This menhir is the largest of all the forest Quénécan and measures 4.50 metres high. It is not easy to find without a GPS receiver as the forest paths are constantly changing due to the foresters making new ones and cutting down areas of forest.

In the forest are lots of small menhirs which again are very hard to find. The source for the stone is a large outcrop of rock in the forest"

Thanks again Ogham. Looking in my "Guide des Megalithes du Morbihan" by Gabriel Le Cam, this menhir (and its nearby smaller stones) is referred to as Le Berger de la Madeleine only, while several others nearby are referred to as menhir du Breuil du Chene (named after the hill).

It has no reference to a Bugul er Hoët menhir, but is not fully comprehensive.

On which map have you seen "The one I submitted is shown on the map as the Bugul er Hoët menhir."

The map was one for the Commune de Cléguérec it had all the ancient megaliths marked on it.

The english man who owns it lives near the Allée couverte de Bot-er-Mohed which als has a map there showing the megaliths in the area.

This menhir is not a christianised menhir and it is not on the road up to Bot et Mohet Allée Couverte. I have revisited the site and it is not the one found by John and Ginny.

We have two sitepages for Bugul er Hoet menhir, so I was about to combine them into a single page. But although the descriptions match, the photos from JohnGinny and those from Ogham do not look too be of the exact same stone. There seem to be differences between them.

Can anyone please tell us for sure whether this is a single stone, or indeed there are two similar stones in the vicinity ? I'll check my books at home, but I am not sure whether I have the definitive guide to this area.

So, for the moment, I will leave both site pages, despite having started to combine them.

The photos from John and Ginny are not the menhir at location
48° 09.952'N 003° 04.326'W which I submitted. The one I submitted is shown on the map as the Bugul er Hoët menhir.
