Dromroe submitted by ladrin : I think that public access is possible. Leave the car where the small pictograph of the Beara tourist trail is. Follow the path about 10 min. After the third or fourth ledder (anyway when you get to the large open pasture), leave the trail to the left. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Stone Circle in Co.Kerry. This is a 13 stone circle in good condition. On a level plateau on an east facing slope it commands a clear view of the Dromoughty valley.

Apart from a fallen portal stone this circle shows all the key elements that define SW multiple stone monuments. The portals are tallest to the NE and the other stones get gradually lower until the axial at the SW which is characteristically broad and lowest. It has a central boulder burial and an unusual standing stone within the circle to the SE.

No longer accessible from the Bear Way national path it is possible to cross from the current route of the path over the bog to view, there are no fences in the way but the farmer has refused permission!

Dromroe
Dromroe submitted by frogcottage42 : This circle is in very good order and was next to the Beara Way path but as seems to be the case in many places locally the farmer has denied access and the path is now diverted 400m to the North. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Dromroe
Dromroe submitted by frogcottage42 : There is a boulder burial in the centre and a standing stone between this and the edge of the circle (Vote or comment on this photo)

Dromroe
Dromroe submitted by frogcottage42 : Very complete and in a setting well away from any houses it is a great shame that public access is not permitted (Vote or comment on this photo)

Dromroe submitted by ladrin : Superb Beara stone circle!

Dromroe
Dromroe submitted by frogcottage42 : About 200m South of the circle is a field containing two distinct cairns within a complex of relict field walls. This is the Western one and is around 3.5m across

Dromroe
Dromroe submitted by frogcottage42 : Just to show that the cows get everywhere! These ones were using the circle as a safe place to keep all the calves and the site is well built enough to be immune to their scratching
