Troston Mount
Troston Mount submitted by Thorgrim : Large bowl barrow to the south of Honington Airfield and adjacent to Broadmere Lake. Unexcavated, probably Bronze Age. TL89677414 (Vote or comment on this photo)
Round Barrow in Suffolk Troston Mount is a barrow later used as a mutlow (moot hill) meeting place for the Bradmere Hundred. Prehistoric mounds seemed to be of special significance to the Anglo-Saxons who used them from the 7th century until the 13th. They also seem to have been used for law disputes and executions as Troston mount is shown as a gibbet on a tithe map of 1842.

A very large Bronze Age barrow with ditch and bank. Diameter is 34m and height 2.5m. Steep sided and tree covered, it is much burrowed into by rabbits. Scheduled but not yet excavated. Visible from the road.
