Ballvackey
Ballvackey submitted by GaelicLaird : Looking to the south west. The radially set portal stone in the foreground. Most likely that the second portal stone that is missing would have been to the right of the one still standing and also set radially. In keeping with local custom it looks like the landowner has left the Hawthorn untouched to avoid disturbing the faeries. Photo taken May 2022. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Ballvackey
Ballvackey submitted by GaelicLaird : Looking to the North East over the wonderfully flat-topped axial stone. Note the radially set portal stone to the right of the axial stone. It's uncommon to find portal stones set radially in this part of the world but one or two examples do exist so maybe it's a distinctive local feature. Photo taken May 2022. A multiple-stone circle in the townland of Ballyvackey, officially recorded as monument CO135-005001-

In low flat pasture in basin of Feagle river, c 100m N of site. Circle incomplete; appears to have consisted of nine stones. Seven survive including S radially-set entrance stone and axial stone (flat topped and largest of group). Stones are 0.7m to 1.6m L, 0.3m to 0.5m T and 0.95m to 1.5m H. Internal measurements along main axis of circle, aligned ENE-WSW is c. 8.5m.

Boulder-burial (monument number CO135-005002-) and standing stone (monument number CO135-129---) c. 50m to N.

The possible cover of the boulder burial consists of a stone block (2.8m x 2m; 0.7m). The standing stone is beside the boulder burial to W.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992).

Ballvackey should be renamed to Ballyvackey, I'm not sure if Ballyvacky is an acceptable name too, Ballvackey is wrong
