Hypogées du Razet
Hypogées du Razet submitted by neolithique02 : The hypogeum necropolises of Coizard - Le Razet (Marne) : tombs #24 - The chamber is a cavity hollowed in the chalky ground. Quadrangular burial chambers are about 6 square meters connected by a narrow entry passage. Neolithic idol are carved inside the ante-grotto (2 sqm) before entering on the main chamber (4 sqm). A pair of axehead is carved on each side of the wall. (Vote or comment on this photo)
This collection of at least 6 original chambered tombs as well as a potential 2 more are burrowed into the chalky Champagne ground inbetween the vineyards. The area is now fenced off. They are in various stage of preservation.

Several years ago, the 2 best structures had entrances very much like a dolmen with very square shapes. These are now believed to have been covered with cement plates and have metal doors, possibly to avoid vandalism. This is however more tatseful than at Courjeonnet.

The remaining graves, carved into the workable yet solid chalky Champagne ground, are in various stages of preservations and only one can be entered.

The 6-8 pasage graves are located at lieu-dit "Razet", parcelles n° 352, 370, 372 et 373p; now in fenced off area. 199 Meters altitude

Note: Fabulous pictures from inside these decorated hypogea from neolithique02. "Entering inside tombs #2,3 is a privilege because those chalky hypogeum are so fragile. It took me almost 10 years to get the opportunity to visit the 2 hypogea !!!"
