Passage Grave in Co. Tyrone

At the top of a hill in Knockmany Forest, approached by a track leading from a car-park,this tomb has unfortunately been enclosed in concrete to protect the decorated stones from name-carvers and other vandals. It is open to visitors at certain times in the summer, and it may still be possible to obtain a key from Clogher police station. Three of the stones of this almost passageless tomb are covered with spirals, cup-marks, serpentines, concentric circles, etc.

~ 6.5 km ENE is another decorated passage-tomb at Sess Kilgreen.

I visited Knockmany passage tomb on the 29.03.23. After a bit of driving around I managed to find a small upper car park in Knockmany Forest where there was a short uphill 10 minute walk (as opposed to 40 minutes from the bottom) to the top pf the hill where the tomb is situated. The tomb has been covered over and protected and can be viewed through an iron gate. Apparently you can contact the Historic Environment Division to make an appointment to gain access to get a up close look at the spiral, ring and zigzag carvings on the stones. Great view from the top.

Into the West: Knockmany Chambered Grave by Andy B on Friday, 06 July 2018

Robert M Chapple writes: The first stop on my journey was to Knockmany Passage Grave. It’s one of those places I’ve heard about so much. It seems that if you studied archaeology in QUB at a certain time you were forced out there at knife-point every second weekend … or, at least, that’s how the story seems to be told. So, it was definitely one of those sites that I wanted to go see for myself.

Re: Knockmany by Anonymous on Sunday, 31 July 2005
this is by handed down legend, the tomb of the first king of egypt (2 lands) Menes, when he came down to Cornwall to visit his father's, (World Emperor Sargon of Sumeria) tin mines and he `wound up on the Eastern Coast of Ireland. Hisa Epitaph in Egypt says an animal came out oif the waters and slew him. It has been deducted that instead `of a Hippo from the Nile slaying Menes that a type of WASP., the same word as hippo, came out of the bay, bit him and 3 or 4 days later he died of a fever. That he was buried in the mound known as Knock Many. General Lawsrence A. Waddel wrote that in his book "The making of Our Civilization"

This theory has now been refered to in a new publication by Anthony woods called Atlantis Ireland . A straight road at the foot of knockmany hill is still known as Race Road as queen anya used to race chariots along it . She is reputed to be in the tomb.
