SandyG visited on 4th Mar 2016 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 4 Access: 3 Car parking is available at SS 84543 44569. From here walk northward along the roadside verge for about 50m, then cross the road and enter the field on you left using the gateway. Head westward passing the stone circle. Best visited in the winter or spring months when the bracken is not growing.

Porlock Allotment NE submitted by thecaptain : What can be found is a large stone which looks like it might once have been standing. It’s a sort of triangular shape, 2.5 m long by 1.5 m wide. I thought this was a lovely place above the conjugation of the two streams, all very atmospheric. (Vote or comment on this photo)
About 0.7 kilometres walk to the west of the stone circle, across rough moorland, just above the place where the two streams which surround the circle meet, is marked a cairn and stones. Although it is in quite a prominent position, it was not easy to find amongst all the bracken and heather, and not at all visible from the ground between it and the circle.

The cairn is about 8 metres in diameter, and still perhaps half a metre high. Within it can be seen several large stones jutting out, and a hollow in the top presumably due to ancient grave robbers.

Just to the north is a large stone which looks like it might once have been standing. It’s a sort of triangular shape, 2.5 m long by 1.5 m wide. I thought this was a lovely place above the conjugation of the two streams, all very atmospheric.

There is also supposed to be the remains of a little row here, but if there is one, it is very well hidden in the heather, gorse and bracken. I found nothing which particularly matches the stones which may be marked on the map.

I have since found reference to at least two stones here, up to half a metre tall, but I think I would have found those. I have also found reference to them having gone missing.

To find this, drive south along the Exford road from Whitstone Post junction, and after a couple of kilometres there is a place to park by the little bridge just south of the gated entrance to the sheepfold beside the stone circle. The stone circle is just inside this field to thee west of the road.

There is also supposed to be the remains of a little row here between the cairn and this stone, but if there is one still, it is very well hidden in the heather, gorse and bracken.
