The Butley bowl barrow was photographed by Paul and Vicky Morgan many years ago when Megalithic Portal was first established. What's happened to their piccies? It's extensively described in their book 'Prehistoric Cheshire' together with the 1909 OS map showing the site of Cairns and where an 'urn and human remains found'

Thanks Kevin, I'm not aware that any photos have been removed.

It's well worth anyone interested getting hold a copy of their Prehistoric Cheshire book while it is still available at a reasonable price. I don't think there's much hope of a reissue so like their Rock Around the Peak book it is bound to get scarce and expensive in future.

I have been in touch with Oxford Archaeology North who have been supervising the work around the scheduled monument for Historic England. They were very re-assuring that everything was protected.

The site has changed a little since I took the photos. Road works are to be done on the A523 to widen the road to two lanes through the traffic lights and in preparation the existing fence, gate and tree have been removed and new a wooden fence and gate have been erected very close the listed monument.
