Llanwrthwl submitted by TimPrevett : History Gallery. Besides the standing stone near the porch, and the circular-ish churchyard, the font here has 4 faces. It is dated to at least 12th century, maybe much earlier. All of this indicative of an existing holy place being adopted. Other churches in the area are said to have five faces (await further sources for verification). Colin and Janet Bord point to a link with a 'celtic head cult... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Llanwrthwl
Llanwrthwl submitted by TimPrevett : The east side of the stone is quite flat, whereas the west side is curved. May this have once been part of a circle? Many stone circles have the flat face turned inwards, with the curved face outwards. This churchyard is also 'sub-circular' as Coflein puts it. Could there be some significance in that? Conjecture and uncertainty. (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)

This is the most obviously circular part of the churchyard. Parking is around to the left of the wall's course... and those blasted telegraph wires!
