At the uphill, northern end of the Trowlesworthy double row, is the scattered remains of a round cairn of about 7 metres diamater with a surrounding circle of 8 standing stones, ranging in height from 0.6 to 1.2 metres, which is known as "The Pulpit". As seems usual, the largest stone, a very strangely shaped slab of 1.2metres, and very leaning, is positioned at the head of the rows.
A 130m (426-foot) avenue of stones leads up a slight rise from the South to join this nice 6.7m (22-foot) circle. The tallest stone of the circle stands where the avenue joins the circle, and stands radially to it rather than facing the centre. It is suggestive of an entrance that was never completed. Commonly called "The Pulpit", the circle's stones vary in height from 0.7m (2 feet 3) inches to 1.3m (4 feet 2 inches).
Update December 2019: This cairn is featured on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website - see their entry for the Trowlesworthy Warren (E) Cairn Circle and Trowlesworthy, Settlements, Stone Row & Cairn Circle.
This cairn is also recorded as part of Pastscape Monument No. 439217, as MDV49511 (Stone circle 370 metres south-west of Great Trowlesworthy Tor) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER, and scheduled as part of Historic England List Entry No. 1012114 (Double stone alignment with a terminal stone setting south of Great Trowlesworthy Tor).
For more information about the associated stone row, see the Stone Rows of Great Britain's entry for Trowlesworthy 1 (Double Row), which includes a description, a plan of the row and its terminal cairn, photographs, and a list of online resources for more information.
