Kozlov 2 Menhir
Kozlov 2 Menhir submitted by ladrin : Kozlov stone is definitely my most favorite. (Vote or comment on this photo)
A hill north of the village of Chýšky in Bohemia hides two beautiful standing stones. Both sites are out of tourist trails, known only to a narrow group of enthusiasts and both are really worth a visit. Kozlov 2 is probably my favourite menhir of all.

Czech Meran is the area roughly around the town of Sedlec Prčice in the southern part of central Bohemia. The name Czech Meran dates to the 19th century and it is related to landscape resemblance around South Tyrolean Merano ...although the local peaks are still just a little bit smaller..

The area of Czech Meran is characterized by its rocky mountains up to 700 m alt., really rugged terrain, islands of dense forests and large pastures. It is said that some of these hills are ancient sacred places. Settlement of this area dates back into far prehistory.

But the most important to me are the stones of the Czech meran. They are truly everywhere around here. Large erratic boulders, impressive logan stones and interesting rock outcrops. Some of the stones were erected in the past and some were used perhaps as a natural sanctum.

This stone hides behind dense vegetation inside a somehow curious circle formation of boulders. Once you get there, it is like you appear inside some ancient stone sanctum. And the huge monolith in the centre dominates the place. With its 220 cm height it is definitely one of the biggest Czech menhirs. Tall beech provides shade to this granite block to keeps its secret. See the Nearby Sites list below for the other nearby stone.

At the first visit I was not successful and I found this stone for the second attempt and to be honest it was not easy.
Beautiful place!
