A rare Iron Age fortification at Arbury Banks. Ploughing has destroyed half the protective covering of medieval ridge and furrow and is damaging the underlying fortification.

Visisted Arbury Banks in the snow yesterday..beautiful location with wide views all round of the rolling hills...but WHY is it fenced in by six foot wire fence with concrete poles and barbed wire at the top???There is a small unusual solid structure just inside the fence which may be the concrete block with Star of David referred to earlier...and I will get inside and check it out the next time I go there. The fencing can hardly be because of livestock as the surrounding fields are all arable.
Does anyone have any more info as I am curious...!

Visited the site briefly today and saw a large star of David embedded in what seemed to be a lump of concrete. Does anyone know why this has been placed there?

Yes, we visited today (July 2008) - and it's still there. Who put it there and why?

For what it might be worth........
There is a very well documented medieval site just south of the village of Chipping Warden on the border of Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire which is also known as Arbury Banks. Not much is known of the history, but there are sizeable earthenwork traces of what appears to be a hill fort and surrounding bordered fields.
Thanks.

We visited Arbury Banks today. It appears that the baks and ditches are being heavily eroded by rabbits. A shame...

The majority of the site is fenced for livestock restricting access but it is set in a beautiful piece of country next to a pretty village of historical interest.
