Leighterton Long Barrow submitted by thecaptain

Massive 80 metre long barrow of the Cotswold Severn group, to the east of the village of Leighterton in Gloucestershire, which can be seen walled in across a couple of fields.

Partially excavated in about 1700, the barrow was found to have had at least three vaulted burial chambers within it, with cremation urns in each.

Massive long barrow to the east of the village of Leighterton, which can be seen walled in across a couple of fields. I could find no public access. The remains of this barrow are massive, and as is often the case, covered with trees. It looks to be one worthy of further exploration if possible.

A monster! Reminded me of East Kennet, a huge disinterested and solitary mass, belending into the surroundings such that most people will fail to notice it at all. When you see it, it dominates everything. Buzzards wheel overhead, the trees and brambles wave in the wind. Power and mystery.
