The installation of a wind farm at Erdeborn made the excavations by the Landesamtes für Denkmalpflege und Archäologie Sachsen-Anhalt necessary. Numerous round discolourations in the soil with a diameter of about 60 to 80 cm were found, which were identified as filled mine shafts with a depth of up to 3.5 m. The cavity at the bottoms often was 2 m boad. The miners most likely used ropes to enter and exits the shafts. Several flintstone fragments were found within the shafts.
The entire extent of the area was not clarified. However, with the over 80 shafts, which have already been cleared on the comparatively small excavation area, this site should have contributed significantly to the supply of the central German economic area during the Neolithic period.
