Ring Cairn in Devon
Information about the Inner Pupers Stone Ring Cairn Circle on Buckfasttleigh Moor comes from the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website. Their notes tell us "the rock outcrop known as Inner Pupers is encompassed by a cairn of 13.0 meters overall diameter. It takes the shape of a platform 0.4 meters high around the rock, with a rim 1.5 meters wide and a further 0.4 meters high. Of small stones, with further 'natural' slabs protrude through."
The PDW web page gives links to further information on Pastscape, Monument Number 441533, which adds the site sits at an altitude of 455 metres OD on the flat top of Pupers Hill. This site is a "rock oriented north to south and probably about 9.0 metres long and 3.0m wide though the southern half is concealed, and from 1.4m to 2.5m high. It is adjoining a cairn of 13.0 metres in overall diameter. It takes the shape of a platform, 0.4m high around the rock, with a rim 1.5m wide and a further 0.4m high."
The Heritage Gateway for Devon & Dartmoor HER number MDV13205 dates the ring cairn from the Early Neolithic to the Late Bronze Age (4000BC to 701BC). It is not scheduled but is on the local list of Nationally Important Dartmoor sites.
