Cist in Devon

Information about the Giant's Hill West Cist comes from the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website. Their notes tell us this site comprises: "The cist is situated at the wsw end of the cairn, is 1.4m by 0.7m by 0.3m deep and is orientated ne-sw".

The PDW web page gives links to further information on Pastscape, Monument Number 1358033, which adds that this site comprises: "a fragmentary cist within the denuded remains of a cairn on the moderate W facing hillside above Mill Corner. The NE endstone and SE sidestone remain in situ giving approximate internal dimensions of 0.6m by 1.4m and 0.2m deep. There is no trace of the other side stones nor the coverstone in the immediate area."

The site is also recorded on the Heritage Gateway for Devon & Dartmoor; see MDV55396 (Cairns on Giant's Hill). They date the cist from the Early Neolithic to the Late Bronze Age (4000BC to 701BC) and the cairn to the Bronze Age (2200BC to 701BC). This site is also scheduled as Historic England List ID 1010981 (Enclosed stone hut circle settlement and three round cairns on Giant's Hill).
