Cist in Devon

Information about the Stonetor Brookhead East Cist comes from the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website. Their notes tell us this site comprises: "a mutilated cist situated amongst peat cuttings on the moderate W slope of shovel Down. Only the north endstone, 0.6m long, remains in situ on the edge of a hollow 1.1m N-S by 0.9m and 0.2m deep. An irregular slab 0.15m thick, probably the disturbed coverstone, lies propped up on the endstone. There is no trace of a covering cairn".

The PDW web page gives links to further information on Pastscape, Monument Number 443684, which adds that this site is "situated on a south west facing slope in open moorland at 1,350 feet OD."

The cist is also recorded as MDV13023 (Ruined cist on Shovel Down, 330 metres east-north-east off Stonetor Hill) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER, and scheduled as part of Historic England List Entry No. 1017874 (The North Teign coaxial field system (western part) and associated later remains at Shovel Down, Stonetor Hill and Long Ridge).

Please note that PDW gives a grid reference of SX 65270 85630 for this cist.
