Sittaford Tor Cairn submitted by Bladup : Sittaford Tor Cairn Circle and Cist (Vote or comment on this photo)
Cairn with cist in Devon. Information about this site, the Sittaford Tor Ring Setting Cairn and Cist, came from the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website. Their notes tell us: "this mutilated kerbed cairn is situated on a peat-covered moorland slope below Sittaford Tor at 488m OD. It measures about 5m in diameter and comprises a probably (hidden) central cist set within twin concentric kerbs of granite slabs.

Further information can also be found on the Pastscape website, see Monument Number 623397, which adds that "there is a central semi-recumbent slab 1.6 meters by 0.25 meters which may cover a cist and other protruding boulders. An inner kerb of granite has further stone slabs up to 0.75 meters high. The inner ring is 2.8 meters in diameter.

The cairn is also recorded as MDV21894 (Kerbed cairn and cist 635 metres south-west of The Grey Wethers) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER, and scheduled as Historic England List Entry No. 1018711 (Kerbed cairn and cist 635m south west of The Grey Wethers).
