Cairn and cist in Devon

Information about the Barn Hill Cist comes from Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website.

The PDW web page gives links to further information on Pastscape, Monument Number 440455, which tells us this is a scheduled monument comprising the remains of a Bronze Age cairn and cist on Barn Hill. "The cairn mound measures 5.7 metres in diameter and stands up to 0.2 metres high. The cist lies slightly south of the cairn's centre and survives as a 0.98 metre long by 0.6 metre wide and 0.3 metre deep stone-lined pit ... the capstone is missing ... cist aligned SSW-NNE."

The Heritage Gateway for Devon & Dartmoor HER number MDV14685 dates the cairn from the Early Neolithic to Late Bronze Age (4000BC to 701BC). Scheduled Monument 1020007: cairn and cist on Barn Hill, 840m north east of Moortown Farm.
