Cairn and cist in Devon

Information about the Shoveldown North West 5 Cist comes from the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website. Also see PDW's entry for the Shovel Down Ceremonial Complex. Their notes tell us this site is: "the remains of a Bronze age cairn and cist which form part of a cairn cemetery on Long Ridge, known locally as Langridge, overlooking the valley of the River North Teign. The cairn has a circular mound which measures 5.2 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres high. The cist measures 0.83 metres square by up to 0.47 metres deep. The capstone, which once covered the cist, now lies 0.7 metres NNW of the cist."

The cist is also recorded as Pastscape, Monument Number 443714, which adds that this is "orientated NW-SE/NE-SW it is completely stone-lined though only the SE stone seems to be intact and upright".

It is also recorded as MDV4394 (Cist in cairn cemetery on Long Ridge) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER, and scheduled as part of Historic England List Entry No. 1017868 (A cairn cemetery on Long Ridge).
