Cairn in Devon
Information about Hentor Farm Platform Cairn Circle and Cist comes from Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks. Their notes say there is "a slight cairn with retaining circle, enclosing a cist aligned SSE-NNW, near the junction of Shavercombe Lake and River Plym." Also see their Guide to the Hentor & Shavercombe Brook Cists.
Further information can be found on Pastscape, Monument Number 439036, which says there "is no ground evidence" to suggest the presence of this cairn, although the Devon and Dartmoor HER and PDW's photographic evidence proves otherwise.
The Heritage Gateway for Devon & Dartmoor HER number MDV12744 (Cairn near the junction of Shavercombe Lake and River Plym) records that in 1995 a site visit described this feature as a "round cairn containing a cist ... Lies within an historic field and forms part of a complex multi period archaeological landscape on the north west slope of hen tor overlooking the valley of the River Plym. Mound is 2.9m in diameter and stands up to 0.15m high. A kerb of small upright granite slabs surround the mound which has been excavated to reveal a cist orientated sse-nnw. The interior of the cist is 0.5m by 0.44m by 0.2m deep." It is a scheduled monument (number 1019082) and dated from the Early Neolithic to the Late Bronze Age (4000BC to 701BC).
This cist is also scheduled as part of Historic England List Entry No. 1019082 (Multi-period remains at Hentor Warren).
