Cist in Devon
This site is featured on Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks as the Redlake Foot (Brown Heath) Cist. Their notes tell us this is "a fine cist at Redlake Foot measuring internally, 0.7m. by 1.0m. and 1.0m. deep single slabs form the end-stones and the southern side-stone. The northern side is a slab resting on a horizontal 'post' type stone' Cover slab partly displaced from the sides."
Further information can be found on Pastscape, Monument Number 441620, which adds that the cist is "merging into the west facing hillslope on its east side. A few large stones with a high quartz or spar content protrude from the turf near the perimeter but are not certainly part of a retaining circle" and "two worked flint flakes were found at a depth of 28 inches" when it was opened probably in 1945-46.
The cist is also recorded as MDV5102 (Cist and cairn on Brown Heath) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER. Whilst the cairn is shown on the Historic England map search, there is no listing or scheduling information for this site.
