Known also as Combe Gibbet, Inkpen long barrow stands on the ridge between Walbury Hillfort and Inkpen Hill. It is 60m long and 22m wide and vague traces of the quarry ditches can be seen.

The double gibbet was erected to hang George Broomham and his mistress, Dorothy Newman for the murder of Broomham's wife and son. The gibbet that stands today is not the original, but it is maintained as a striking local landmark.

Access The barrow lies alongside a by-way which gives vehicular access from the metalled road (if your vehicle can withstand the ruts). Probably better to take a short walk up the by-way from the Walbury Hillfort car park at the lane junction to the east.

There isn't much to see of the long barrow, but the view from the top is impressive.

I have a great view of it (and Walbury Hill) from my lounge window, so dont have to climb it anymore!
