Burry Lesser submitted by TheCaptain : Burry Lesser standing stone, seen here viewed looking east. The western end of Cefn Bryn ridge in the distance. (Vote or comment on this photo)
This shoulder height stone of pebbly puddingstoney conglomerate stands beside the western edge of a field on top of a low ridge. It's dimensions are 1.6m tall, approximately 0.6m square in section.

There are lots of other blocks of stone nearby, so I wonder whether it has been broken in the past, or this is just field clearance.

Its companion can be seen across the other side of the field to the east, and I have seen it written somewhere that this was in the past an alignment of 3 stones.

Burry Lesser submitted by Horatio : Cattle/sheep rubbing stone no 2. The second stone in this field and in situ. I was looking at these two stones yesterday and was wondering why two standing stones so close together but apart? I have just noticed The Captains comments about it possibly being the remnants of a stone row/alignment which would make sense.

An impressive stone - now recumbant. The problem with most Gower Peninsula standing stones is that most have them have been incorporated into field boundaries and all you can see are their heads emerging from overgrown hedges. This one is different however, shame it has not been re-erected. If you want to know more about Gower stones visit http://www.explore-gower.co.uk
You can also purchase a booklet detailing all 8 of Gower's standing stones by contacting explore-gower@ntlworld.com
