SandyG visited on 3rd Sep 2016 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 4 Access: 2 Car parking is available at ND 31885 40851. Follow the signposting to the Cairn O’Get. At ND 31523 40988 follow the track north to ND 31713 42049. After visiting this row it makes sense to have a look at Watenan, West also. Watenan, West is only about 400m away to the north west but the ground is uneven and care should be taken to avoid the frequent boggy areas.
This stone row is featured on the Stone Rows of Great Britain website - see their entry for the Watenan, East stone row, which includes a description, photographs and access information (car parking and directions for finding the row). The SRoGB notes that this is one of a cluster of at least 9 rows near Loch Watenan.
Recorded on Canmore as a cairn and stone row Watenan Site ID 286788, they describe the remains of stone rows and a small associated cairn being situated "on a gentle south-east facing slope dropping down from a low rise into the gully of the burn that flows into the northern tip of Loch Watenan .... at least four rows can be identified, though even the best preserved, to the S of the second trackway, comprises no more than four upright stones, terminating on the SE in a slab measuring some 0.8m in length. The rest of the stones are scattered to the N of this trackway, and one exposed on its lip down to the level of the subsoil is probably fairly typical, measuring 0.45m in length by 0.1m in thickness and 0.3m in height; a packing-stone in its socket is also exposed. The other upright stones protrude no more than 0.2m above the ground and are largely lost in the regenerating heather."
This site sits at an altitude of 112 metres above sea level and has a view over the sea to the east. No specific details are given about the number of stones and the length of the rows, although the orientation is recorded as 135 degrees. The site has been disturbed and narrow machine cuts can be seen on some of the stones.
The associated cairn at ND 31727 42044 has a Highland Historic Environment Record at MHG50380 - Watenan.
