Interpretative Centre of Évora Megalithism
Interpretative Centre of Évora Megalithism submitted by Aluta : Setting the menhir upright. This is not my image but was posted by Ebora Megalithica on their Facebook page. It is only one of about 10 images of the process of moving and placing a menhir without modern machinery. It is a relatively small stone but I thought some people might like to see photos of how it was done. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Megalithica Évora is a resource centre for megalithic sites in the city of Évora, Portugal, it's a permanent exhibit in the Remédios convent in São Sebastião avenue.

Inside one of the rooms it's possible to get a brief explanation of the panorama of the megalithism of the Évora district, it to gives a good idea of the large number of dispersed monuments of the region by also putting them in a chronological timeline. The Megalithic Portal is well mentioned and there are a lot of larger size photos from the Portal posted on the walls (with permission). This exhibit was made with the help of the local teachers and students and is more focused on children or people that are not familiar with megalithic sites.

By the entrance are two big standing stones but there is not much information about them, I believe that these menhirs are replicas and not the real deal.

Inside you can also see a big model of an ancient neolithic settlement and also a group of dramatised sequences of the day to day life of the ancient societies of the region.

This one is a permanent exhibit but there are also different exhibits in other rooms. The best way is to check out the internet page of the Municipality of Évora to get updated information about the place.
Opens from Tuesday to Friday: from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 a.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Closed: Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and local holidays.

Interpretative Centre of Évora Megalithism submitted by Bak_teria : Daily life in the Neolithic camp was not that easy. In this case we can see some people drying and preparing animal skins, others are using them also to build a shelter. Behind it is also possible to observe some hunters hunting animals and others transporting them. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Interpretative Centre of Évora Megalithism submitted by Bak_teria : At the entrance of the convent is possible to see two big standing stones. Both of them haven't got any kind of identification so I think both can be replicas or modern monuments.

Manual lifting of the Menir of Herdade do Mid Ash in Portugal by Andy B on Friday, 06 May 2022
(User Info | Send a Message)
Aluta writes: The bunch at Ebora Megalithica near Évora, Portugal organised a group to move and place a menhir and photographed the process. I don't know anything about the stone itself but it appears to have old rock art.

I live in the Alentejo/Extremadura (Spain) region. There are more dolmens, circles, menhirs, rock art and even Roman remains than you can sensibly see in a lifetime. Évora is a beautiful city, well worth anyones time,be they into megalithic portals or no. As is all of this área. A hidden gem and I feel privileged to live here

Oh, and can I just add there are something like 152 dolmens in varying states, and varying accesibility around Valencia de Alcântara alone? Elvas has another hundred or so, most other places in this área have a few There is rock art just up the road from me, A Huge Menhir just outside Castello de Vide and I swear I spotted a stone circle in a field just outside Santa Eulalia! Because the stones are small it doesnt really stand out. But someone knows, else it would have been grubbed out! .
