Fogou in Cornwall

Pendeen Vau Fogou, Manor Farm, Pendeen, West Penwith, Cornwall (SW381356) An Iron Age fogou situated on a working farm (a great place to stay either in the 17th century converted manor house holiday cottage or the B&B).

Note: On private land - permission should be sought from Pendeen Farm.

Interesting legend attatched to this site,at Christmas ,a young woman dressed all in white and holding a blood red rose appears at the mouth of the Fogue, and all who see her die within the year following! (Dosnt pay to be the person milking at Cristmas in the sheds close by the entrance especialy as the cows go so close as to occaisionaly manage to aim staight at the entrance when they pass by!!!!!!)
Seriously though I wonder if this folk legend has some memory of old rituals somewhere within it as it has been passed down through the ages?
