Dr Driver's book "The Hillforts of Iron Age Wales" has just been published with all the latest research and information. Lots of wonderful photos and explanations of my favourite hillforts...

A beautiful walk up from Brecon - we did it on Saturday (should have done Pen-y-Fan but I bottled out because I had a cold).

This is quite a site. Not only a trivallate fort, but several sections have additional sections of 'wall' or defensive platforms. I didn't have a compass with me, but on what I guessed to be the western side, there is a good example of this non-continuous defense... Were they showing off to people across the valley in that direction?

Well worth the climb. A shame about the bracken that obscures the outlines of the walls.

great views of brecon and the beacons. ramparts clearly vissible. There is a nearby standing stone just to the west of the fort which forms part of an alignment leading up to mynydd bach near trecastle. There is also a well spring on the SE slopes of the crug inside a 17th cent well house.

Great place, I grew up in the shadow of the crug!!!

Went there lots as a kid and feel a longing for it often worth a visit.

If you want to know the easiest route to the top its from the west side past golf course (Cradoc) on left and park in layby about half a mile along the road.

Walk up pathway over gate and straight up the hill, there is another way from brecon but it is too difficult to describe.

I hope you enjoy your visit as much as me!!!!!
