Cup stones are not rare on the Eastern shores of the Baltic Sea. They all have approximately the same dimensions. They are considered precious enough testimonies of the past for some of them to be now preserved in museums. That said, I could only list a dozen of them.

This particular stone lies at the bottom of a ravine, inside a wood in a thinly populated area. Once you have found the ravine, you'll find the stone, about 15 m from the edge of the wood – beware : slippery path when wet.

Overall diameter : 1,30 m ; the height is difficult to assess, as the stone is dug in the ground.
Hole diameter 55 cm ; the depth is 10 cm on average.
Note the elaborate bottom of the hole.

While there, consider visiting two major WWII cemeteries : a Russian cemetery in Priekule (56.4317, 21.5957), a German cemetery in Saldus (56.6127, 22.4596).

The stone is not visible from the footpath, being hidden by vegetation. June 2014. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Meldzeres dobumakmens submitted by Alta-Falisa : For the fun : a small yellowish stone of fancy shape, found in the field nearby, is laid on the cup-stone to "absorb" its Powers... Said stone is now on my desk ... June 2014. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Meldzeres dobumakmens submitted by Alta-Falisa : The 1500 m long field road ends here (56.4977, 21.9608), probably off your SatNav. From here, there is another 150 m on foot, going straight into the wood. Just a few meters after having entered the wood, you'll find a natural ravine : the stone is then nearly in front of you. Meldzeres dobumakmens
Meldzeres dobumakmens submitted by Alta-Falisa : Signpost along the gravel road P106 at (56.4870, 21.9515), visible from both sides. It points to a field road leading towards the North, which is not as smooth as a gravel road but still reasonably practicable by car, at least by dry weather – otherwise, better go on foot. It says 1,3 km, but make it 1,5 km. At the end of this straight stretch (see Satellite view), you'll find another signpost... (Vote or comment on this photo)
