Kasagala Vihara
Kasagala Vihara submitted by KaiHofmann : Ancient temple building ruins with large stone pillars. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The Kasagala temple in Sri Lanka was built by King Kavantissa, inscriptions from the 2nd century BCE to 2nd century CE can be found. One inscription says that the temple was renovated by King Dappula of Rohana in 659 CE. Today many ancient ruins of buildings with pillars - the locals call them "poles of the kingĀ“s time - can be found. Some pillars look like standing stones.

Most of the pillars are around 2.5m tall. In the main temple are many wonderful paintings and a sitting lord Buddha statue.
