Cairns North of Roos Tor
Cairns North of Roos Tor submitted by caradoc68 : Small hole dug in to one side of the cairn that has revealed the stones that make up the cairn before the excavations was abandoned in 1898 because of bad weather. (Vote or comment on this photo)
There are remains of a couple of cairns on the top of the raise, on the ridgetop about halfway between Roos Tor and Langstone Moor stone circle

The bigger of the two cairns at SX5488477645. Is very hard to see. It lies 41m away from its smaller twin cairn and is only visible by a small pile of rocks to one side of the Cairn being 15 metres in diameter. All the cairn cover seems to have disappeared leaving only the platform where it once stood.

The smaller cairn of the two, is at SX5488177658. Both were examined by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1898 but the excavation was called off because of a nasty rainstorm.

Update November 2019: These cairns are featured on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website - see their entry for the Roos Tor N. Cairn. Both cairns are recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 439803, and this cairn as MDV4116 (Round cairn on Langstone Moor) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER.

The cairns are scheduled, but Historic England gives slightly different grid references; see: Historic England List Entry No. 1007552 (smaller cairn at SX 54885 77653), and as List Entry No. 1007553 (larger cairn at SX 54836 77640). Pastscape gives the grid references as SX 5484 7764 and SX 5488 7766.
