ArnoudTenHaaft visited on 31st Aug 2010 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 5 Access: 1 This is my second visit to this site since August 2008. Please use my GPS coordinates if you want to go there. Mongolia is a country with unpaved dirt roads without any road signs. When you travel from Mörön (closest airport), take the road to the airport and follow the tracks to the NW for some 20 km. Drive your car to a high hilltop when you think you are near the location and scan the landscape. You can recognize the site by a small fence and the ger (Mongolian felt tent) of the caretaker. This man is really special in 2005 the gave himself the task to guard this unique location in the summer months. All at his own expense and in his own time. Since a few years the local authorities allow him to charge a small fee of something like € 2,- to foreign visitors. Of course we gave him a much larger donation. Ask him for the White Bird Ovoo that was started by some Dutch visitors and he will probably tell you all about us ;) He told us there are some 500! burial mounds in the close vicinity of the standing stones all of them thousands years old. One particular burial mound was examined with ground radar and was found to be dug 15 meters deep into the ground and build up in several layers of grave gifs. It is presumed to be a royal grave.

A wonderful site in Mongolia with numerous standing stones and approx. 500 graves from the Scythian age and earlier have been identified by researchers.

The site is is guarded by a Mongolian volunteer during the summer period.

Thank-you, these are wonderful examples and the voluntary caretaker is doing a fantastic job. Without people like you and him, these stones would be lost forever.

I've uploaded some pictures of the amazing Moron Deer Stones in Northern Mongolia.

This site and it's voluntary caretaker should get all the help possible to save these beautifull standing stones for the future. This is my first contribution to put this location on the map.
