On 14 June 2006 Dr. U. Avner and I were surveying the sanctuaries in wadi Rum, Jordan. We were joined by Dr. Gary Rollefson chair of Whitman’s anthropology department, who is also co-editor of a Neolithic archaeology journal, co-editor-in-chief of an academic publishing facility at Freie Universität-Berlin and a consultant for Jordan’s Department of Antiquities .
About 1 Km from Rum village, I found a strange pavement beneath the northern Cliff of the wadi which was mostly covered by sand. Dr. Avner looked at the structure and suggested to Dr. Rollefson to excavate it as it was so unique. Dr. Rollefson who is working in Jordan can easily get an excavation permit
On 5.07.2007 we were invited by Dr. Rollefson to see the structure that had been exposed by him and 1 student .
The pavement has a shape of 3 snakes and is about 80 Meters long. In the excavation some flint sherds and a Matsebah were found. After the excavation, the pavement was re-covered with sand to avoid the stones being looted by the nearby villagers.
