Menhir du Col d'Aurières submitted by ocdolmen : Two views of Col d'Aurières menhir. The base is a limestone monolith while usually, for more recent crosses, the base is in cement or concrete. (Vote or comment on this photo)
I have read in an old book that there was a menhir near Aurières hamlet. I went there and saw dolmen 1 of Aurières with its broken capstone and a friend showed me 2 other ruined sites (n°2 & 3). But where was the menhir ?

At the Aurières pass (between the valley and the beginning of the Blandas plateau), I found this stone with a cross mounted on the top.
It seems that the stone has been cut and then the cross put at its summit.

Its position at a pass (a lot of menhirs in this area are positioned in a pass) and near a trackway seems that this stone is certainly a christianised menhir.

43.9593 3.47169
