CharcoalBurner89 visited on 30th Apr 2021 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 3 The stone cist is well signposted from the street B71 in the village of Heerstedt and can hardly be missed. Park the car shortly beforehand and walk the last 300 meters to the cist is no big problem.

Within an 15 x 6m x 2m barrow called Langenbarg (“langer Berg”, translation: “long mountain”) a stone cist was discovered in 1935 when a farmer partly destroyed the barrow. In 1938 the site was excavated by A. Lincke. His report later was published by Jacob-Friesen.
The slightly trapezoid stone-cist is built of flat stone-slabs. Clear size approximately 2m x 1m.
Inside the cist some last remains of a tree trunk coffin were found. This coffin contained the remains of one human and several grave goods from early bronze age (3300-3500 BP). Amongst this a bronze sword, a bronze dagger, a fibula ornamented with a row of 7 concentric circles and a rare wooden round-bowl richly decorated with small nails. The bowl was placed on a flat stone slab at the NW-edge of the cist. Unfortunately the findings including the most remarkable bowl were destroyed when parts of the museum in Bremerhaven burnt down 1946.
